Technical Documentation

At Data Titan, we live by a simple mantra... "Tribal data shall not rule the day."

Too often in business, processes, methodologies and delivery/process and manufacturing approaches become entrenched into the minds of a select few.  This is not intentional.  Rather, it is the result of key personnel making “best practice” decisions at the exact moment in time they are needed, often at the expense of the very process people should follow.  Over time, these individuals accumulate so much "tribal" knowledge they become the single greatest point of information, but also the single greatest point of failure.

Whether through termination, job transfer, retirement, relocation to another city, medical leave or death, their departure can leave a vacuum that cannot be replaced.

Disaster Recovery Plans

Imagine coming into the office one morning to learn your IT Manager and Senior Programmer have both given two weeks’ notice.  Do you know where every password in your organization is located?  Do you know where your databases live in the cloud?  Where are your backups and who has access to them?  Where are your databases and how do you know that what you receive is 100% of what you are supposed to receive?  How do you know back-ups are current?  What is your round-robin emergency plan?  Who does what during an IT disaster?  What about your phone vendor and hosting services?  Do you know what information to collect when IT personnel are leaving the company?

Unfortunately, we've seen the worst case scenario of what happens when a business does not have an adequate disaster recovery plan.  To prevent this from happening to your company, we meet with you and your key IT staff to explore, define and assemble a Disaster Recovery Plan (DRP).   We also meet with you or your senior managers to establish operational procedures and guidelines to ensure your IT team has a well-defined road-map for success.  Additionally, we have an extensive background in IT/IS hardware systems, networks and software development, so we know how to communicate, manage, navigate and work with senior IT management and programmers to develop an effective plan, cost efficiently.

99% of the time, you'll never your DRP, but like most insurance plans, when you need it – you need it, and you'll be glad you have it.
